Week 2

Week 2 kicked off last Wednesday with our first trip to the doctor with Samuel.  Dad took a half day so he could come along!  Everything looked good except you weren't back up to your birthweight yet (Really?? You need to eat MORE??) They weighed and measured you and checked all your vitals and everything was good!  We did go to the doctor a week later and you were at 8 lbs 5 oz after feeding!

SEP 15 2010
Weight:  7lb 13.5 oz (50%tile)
Height: 20 inches (50-75%tile)
Head: 14 5/8" (50-75%tile)

You have been a really good baby during the day and the nights have been hit or miss as far as sleeping.  The last few nights you have slept in 2-4 hour stints so mom has been very happy and much more well-rested!

Mom is still getting used to bathttime - you usually start out unhappy (as you look below!) but once we are going and the warm water is on you, you are okay!  You finally lost your umbilical cord last night so we will try out your real bathtub next!

Who does Samuel look like?

These are the best newborn photos I have of both of us - we think Samuel has mom's mouth and lower face and dad's eyes - what do you think???

Week One

We spent 3 nights in the hospital and it was a chance to recover, but also to spend time and get used to having a newborn in our life.  The first night had us a little worried as you seemed to not be sure you were happy to be out!  We tried to put you down to sleep with no avail and instead you slept and nursed in my arms the whole night  The second and third night we utilized the nursery and they brought you in every two hours during the night for nursing.  It was definitely a taste of life to come!  I loved having the time to just hold you and get to know you.  We also got to see you get your first bath from one of the nurses as well as have some friends and family visit and meet you.

On Saturday, we got to take you home!  We were definitely ready to bring our little family home and I think Bradley was excited to sleep on a bed!  We put you in your new outfit (hand-picked by mom!) and it was kind of surreal to wheel you out of the hospital.

So, we've been home for almost 3 full days and it is amazing!  We definitely aren't getting the sleep we used to, but last night was successful in that even though baby was up every two hours (on the dot) to feed, I was actually able to sleep in bed in between.  Everything is going well and we are getting used to our wonderful new "normal."  Sunday we even took you out for the first time to Caribou for coffee and chai - you love being pushed in the stroller!
One of my favorite things is seeing you with your dad - you are very lucky, Samuel!  Seeing him hold you and hang out with you and talk to you is the sweetest thing.

All I can say is that I feel so blessed - life just keeps getting sweeter and becoming a wife and mom have been the best moments so far!

Your First Vikings Game...

Sammy,

The Minnesota Vikings opened the 2010 season against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday September 9th....this is your first Vikings Game!  Brett Favre is in his last year trying to bring Superbowl glory to the frozen tundra of Minnesota.

Unfortunately, the Vikings lost 14 to 9 in a heated battle of the season opener.  Let's get this ship turned around!

Love you!

Welcome to the World my son, Samuel Henry Backstrom

Sammy,

After hours of labor and a few challenges, you finally arrived Wednesday, September 8th at 8:41pm.  You weighed in at 8lbs1oz and were 21 inches long.  Mom is doing very well despite the long day!
We are so excited to have you here, finally!!!  You are the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life!  We are so thankful and blessed that you are very healthy and all signs are very positive.

You gave us a nice taste of reality early on into the night Wednesday along with Thursday.  I think much of our reaction was that mom and I had no idea what to expect.  Funny thing is, since you awoke at 7am Thur you have been a saint!
Both sets of Grandparents have come to see you twice now and are excited.  Tonight Uncle Bryan, Aunt Jessie, and cousin Bryn are planning to come by to meet you.

I don't think I have stopped smiling since first hearing your cry!

Love you buddy!

The Heat is ON!

Shrimps,

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

So today is Wednesday, September 1st and you are still holding out!  Well, the day isn't quite over yet!!?  In the baby pool, Aunt Stephanie and I both picked today as the day you would join us....come on buddy, there's still time! :)

This last weekend, mom and I spent a ton of time getting the house and cars ready for your arrival.  I got the car bases in along with assembling the stroller.  That thing's the Cadillac version I tell ya!  So, we are ready to say the least.

Well, this is it...the home stretch buddy!  I hope you are starting to see the light as you gotta be getting close.  No matter when that day comes, I wish you a safe and joyous adventure into the world!

We love you and can't wait to start this next chapter of our lives with you by our side!
